Nikon Coolpix S3300 and S4300 prepare to do cheap camera battle

Smartphones haven’t eclipsed the budget camera brigade yet. This pair of Nikons are ready to be snapped up at bargain basement prices

Joining the Nikon Coolpix P510 and Coolpix P310 we unmasked earlier are the Coolpix S3300 and Coolpix S4300. These two compact point-and-shooters are aimed more at the social snapper than the enthusiast but nonetheless boast some tasty specs.

The Nikon Coolpix S3300 punts a 16MP sensor, 6x zoom lens, 2.7in LCD screen, lens-shift vibration reduction technology, 720p video recording and a slew of somewhat gimmicky in-camera filter effects. The Nikon Coolpix S4300 ups the ante with a 3in 460k-dot LCD monitor and touchscreen operation.

If size matters, the S3300’s slight 19.5mm frame will appeal and you won’t be stuck for colour options – silver, black, green, pink, purple, red and blue paint jobs are all available. Sadly, the Coolpix S4300 is only available in more sober colour options – silver, black, red and white.

Both cameras go on sale this month, priced approximately £120 for the Coolpix S3300 and £150 for the Coolpix S4300.
