Nike Football has unveiled two hi-tech pieces of gear that&rsquo;ll be used by a handful of the world&rsquo;s top players in soccer&rsquo;s premier showcase: the Rebento duffle bag and Mercurial FlyLite shin guard.</p> <p><strong>Hi-tech how?</strong><br />Well, for starters both come with 3D printed elements. The bag has a 3D-printed plastic base (with leather forming the bulk of the actual bag) and the shin pad has a webbed shock absorption system that replaces the foam you&rsquo;d usually see.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/nike-unveils-knitted-magista-boots-ahead-world-cup/news">Nike unveils knitted Magista boots ahead of World Cup</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>How does that help, though?</strong><br />Well, in the case of the bag the cocoon-like base structure is both lightweight and supportive of whatever a ludicrously rich footballer might want to carry in it. With the shin guards, the structure provides more consistent impact protection than standard foam and flexes more easily, which means it can wrap more tightly around the lower leg. It breathes better than foam too.</p> <p><strong>Can I buy them?</strong><br />Not yet. In fact, there are only three Rebento bags in existence, and they&rsquo;ll be toted by Wayne Rooney, Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo (assuming he shakes off his injury) at the World Cup. The Mercurial FlyLite, on the other hand, will be available at nike.com from 1st July (price to be confirmed).</p> <p>Alternatively, if you&rsquo;ve got a 3D printer you can have a go at designing your own &ndash; although we make no guarantee that your homemade shin pads will protect you from a crunching challenge next time you&rsquo;re playing five-a-side.</p> <p>[Via: <a href="http://nikeinc.com/news/nike-launches-summer-2014-football-equipment-innovations#/inline/29991">Nike</a>]</p> <p><strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/hot-stuff">MORE HOT STUFF STORIES</a></strong></p> <p><iframe frameborder="0" height="180" src="http://pages.haymarket.com/stuff_signup/enews_embed" width="300"></iframe></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="The Mercurial FlyLite shin pad features a 3D printed structure" alt="The Mercurial FlyLite shin pad features a 3D printed structure" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/nike-flylite-shin-pads.jpg?1402483703" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="The 3D printed base of the Rebento bag" alt="The 3D printed base of the Rebento bag" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/nike-rebaro-bag-detail.jpg?1402483703" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> 3D Printing Nike Sport World Cup 2014 Mon, 09 Jun 2014 14:15:31 +0000 Sam Kieldsen 1438818 at http://www.stuff.tv Video: Nike launches new Magista football boots with Andrés Iniesta http://www.stuff.tv/nike/video-nike-magista-nike-s-unveils-radical-new-boot-andres-iniesta/video <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> “Football will never be the same again.” That was the bold statement from Nike when it pulled back the curtain on its Flyknit football boots </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-main-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_main_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Video: Nike launches new Magista football boots with Andrés Iniesta" alt="Video: Nike launches new Magista football boots with Andrés Iniesta" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/images/news/Nike-magista-football-boot-0121.jpg?1394416737" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="video-wrapper brightcove-player-wrapper"> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="http://admin.brightcove.com/js/BrightcoveExperiences.js"></script> <script src="http://admin.brightcove.com/js/APIModules_all.js"></script> <div class="brightcove-player"> <object id="myExperience-3316464752001" class="BrightcoveExperience"> <param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /> <param name="playerID" value="" /> <param name="playerKey" value="AQ~~,AAAAEgPmGlk~,Fzd-TvXcznw-P3piHaryQBMeIzWITldz" /> <param name="isVid" value="true" /> <param name="isUI" value="true" /> <param name="dynamicStreaming" value="true" /> <param name="@videoPlayer" value="3316464752001" /> <param name="autoStart" value="" /> <param name="htmlFallback" value="true" /> <param name="includeAPI" value="true" /> <param name="templateLoadHandler" value="brightcoveTemplateLoaded" /> <param name="width" value="640px" /> <param name="height" value="360px" /> </object> <!-- This script tag will cause the Brightcove Players defined above it to be created as soon as the line is read by the browser. When was the last time you saw a football boot with a high-top design? According to Nike, that&rsquo;s a Dynamic Fit collar, to give you a locked-down fit and flexibility of movement.</p> <p>But how will they fare on a squelchy, sodden pitch on a Sunday morning? NIKESKIN&rsquo;s your answer. It&rsquo;s a 0.1mm thick layer that essentially melts on to the knit to protect the boot and prevent water damage.</p> <p>If you&#39;re still struggling to believe that a knitted boot - did we mention they&#39;re knitted? - will help you achieve footballing glory, maybe a few half-decent players can convince you.&nbsp;&ldquo;Unbelievable&rdquo;, &ldquo;perfect&rdquo; and &ldquo;futuristic&rdquo; were just some of the words used to describe the Magista boots by Barcelona&rsquo;s Andrés Iniesta and Bayern Munich&#39;s German forward Mario Götze, who have worked closely with Nike bods during the boot&rsquo;s four-year development.</p> <p>&ldquo; The fit of this boot is so unique that I don&rsquo;t think about it when I&rsquo;m wearing it,&rdquo; says Iniesta. &ldquo; It allows me to move the way I need to instinctively and with more confidence.&rdquo;</p> <p>Nike says &ldquo;football will never be the same again&rdquo;, which is a pretty bold statement to make. But with Adidas also revealing its own knitted boot earlier today in the form of the Primeknit FS, there&rsquo;s no denying that footie footwear is undergoing its biggest change since the days when players wore pigs&#39; stomachs on their feet. Or maybe we&#39;re remembering that wrong.</p> <p>Either way, the Nike Magista boots will be available for pre-order on April 29 &ndash; just don&rsquo;t expect to play like Iniesta every time you slip them on.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/it-s-round-it-bounces-it-s-called-brazuca-introducing-new-world-cup-football/feature">Meet Brazuca, the 2014 World Cup football</a></strong></p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/secrets-behind-opta-how-stat-seeking-experts-watch-football/feature">How Opta analyses football</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Barcelona&#039;s Andres Iniesta helps launch the Nike Magista knitted boot" alt="Nike Magista knitted football boots World Cup 2014" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Nike-magista-football-boot-012.jpg?1402672436" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> http://www.stuff.tv/nike-unveils-knitted-magista-boots-ahead-world-cup/news#comments Health and fitness Nike Sport Wearable tech World Cup 2014 Thu, 06 Mar 2014 18:57:17 +0000 Marc McLaren 1433356 at http://www.stuff.tv Face-off: The best fitness tracker bands from Nike, Jawbone and Fitbit http://www.stuff.tv/fitbit/bands-run/feature <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Walk further, sleep longer, and get fitter – these fitness trackers can rebuild you in style. It’s also got a really intelligent algorithm for tracking your steps and logging runs, and it’ll even measure your sleep. Its interface uses an audio jack that lets you plug into your phone for a quick sync, battery readout, and change of alarm time or idle vibration alerts – perfect for reminding you to keep active. That’s still more fiddly than the Bluetooth competition, though.</p> <p><strong>GOOD?&nbsp;</strong>Step and run recording is as accurate as you could hope, but what really sets the Up apart is the depth of its sleep tracking. Not only does it track your time with the sandman, it also wakes you up intelligently so you rise more naturally and refreshed. Then there’s the brilliant power nap mode, which knows when you nod off and gives you 45 minutes of shuteye so you awake alert. While connectivity could be better, the lack of Bluetooth does extend battery life to a solid ten days.</p> <p><strong>SOFTWARE:</strong>&nbsp;From your data Up offers extra info. Not sleeping well? The app will give you tips on diet to help your kip. Plus you can record everything you eat on the Up app for a more rounded health view, or sync to MyFitnessPal, which has a far more substantial food tracker.</p> <p><strong>WORKS WITH:&nbsp;</strong>iOS, Android, PC and Mac.</p> <p><strong>VERDICT:&nbsp;</strong>Top looking smart-wrist-kit that’ll not only keep you active but help you sleep better too. The Flex is a large pill-sized sensor that slips into a comfy, strong rubberised wrist strap. It packs in - deep breath - Bluetooth 4.0 to feed your phone live tracking info, NFC to activate the mobile app at a touch, an accelerometer for measurements, a week-long battery, a vibrating motor, and a five-light display. Phew. Plus it comes from market-leading step counter Fitbit – whose step-tracking algorithm is ultra-accurate. It's also the cheapest of the lot.</p> <p><strong>GOOD?</strong> Live tracking your steps on your mobile as you walk will certainly make you feel good, and whether on your phone or a computer you can set goals for distance, steps or calories. Five white lights, each representing twenty per cent, alert you – at a tap – to your progress. It'll track your sleep and silently wake you up, too, although not as intelligently as the Jawbone. But considering the price the only real complaint we have is that Android support is so far patchy at best. Yup, it tells the time, too – who’d have thought that could be so handy? A row of coloured lights show your goal while the screen illuminates calories burned, steps taken and Nike Fuel points attained. All this can also be displayed beautifully – and live – on your Nike+ mobile app.</p> <p><strong>GOOD? </strong>While this has been around a long while and accelerometer tech isn't new to Nike, it still feels the easiest to fool. And while Nike Fuel offers a way to motivate yourself through community competition, we felt more rewarded by real world data like steps and calories.
