In case you’ve had your head buried in the Radio Times, Zeebox is the TV app of the future. Part electronic programme guide, part show-specific social media aggregator, part remote control and part see-it-buy-it personal shopper, it’s been around on iPad (and on zeebox.com) since the start of November.
Now Stuff can reveal the free iPhone app is on the cusp of release. Zeebox co-founder and CTO Anthony Rose (formerly of BBC iPlayer and YouView) showed us the new app in an exclusive briefing and says it could be mere days before Zeebox for iPhone goes to Apple for approval. Given Zeebox’s iPad app is already in the App Store, we’d expect Apple to waste no time in greenlighting its smartphone equivalent.
And Android fiends needn’t wait too much longer – Rose says an Android Zeebox app could be coming “early next year” as well as the ability to use the app with on-demand and catch-up TV via Shazam-esque audio recognition.
It’s going to be a big year for Zeebox in 2012. Get in on the action early at zeebox.com and let us know what you think.
