Is Microsoft preparing the launch of a 7-inch “Xbox Surface” tablet focussed on games? According to the latest rumours, it most definitely is.
The Verge has been informed by “multiple sources” from within Microsoft that initial hardware planning for such a device is currently underway. Now obviously this suggests that the specs aren’t yet set in stone, but apparently it will have a 7-inch screen with a 1280 x 720 resolution and an ARM-based Texas Instruments processor. There’ll be an SD card slot too, plus Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Unlike the Xbox 360, the tablet will be manufactured in the same secretive way as the Surface tablets, and Microsoft has reportedly “locked down” several buildings in an attempt to keep the development of this tablet under wraps.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more on this, so stay tuned.
