Wireless power boost from Sony and Intel

Two new developments in wireless power tech this week suggest that the days of fumbling for power adaptors and tripping over kettle leads could be num

Then today, Sony announced that it is working on a similar system, achieving the same 80 percent efficiency as Intel with up to 60W of power. Both use the same physical mechanism - coupled magnetic resonance - based on large coils transmitting power at very high frequencies. Intel's tech has the edge for now, as it can dynamically shift frequencies so that the coils do not have to be precisely aligned

at a set distance.

Both companies envisage a future where portable gadgets are recharged wirelessly, desk space is freed up, batteries shrink and we all bathe in a gentle magnetic glow. Can't wait.
