Next-gen Microsoft OS screenshots show Apple-aping software download and security portal

Microsoft is jumping on the app store bandwagon, as this screenshot from its next-generation Windows 8 OS shows. Applications, security updates and games are all accounted for and the My Gift folder suggests app tokens could be filling Christmas stockings in Windows homes. There’s an undeniable similarity between Apple's app store, which may ruffle a few iFeathers, but to be fair there are only so many ways to arrange a bunch of icons. Personally, we don’t give a flying app what the store looks like, as long as it’s well stocked with quality offerings. Inevitably Angry Birds is already taking pride of place. Time to sing a new tune, app store promoters.
