WhatsApp might migrate from mobiles to your PC desktop

WhatsApp Web might have some competition

Been hankering for native WhatsApp for your PC or Mac? A desktop version might be on the way sooner than you think.

Screenshots leaked to Twitter by @WABetaInfo show what looks like beta versions of a native WhatsApp… app.

According to the leak’s source, WhatsApp has a few hidden features in the works that will (eventually) see a release, including built-in download links for WhatsApp PC and WhatsApp Mac.

While the code looks legit, there is no set timeline for a dedicated WhatsApp desktop messenger to arrive.

It looks like it’s still firmly in beta mode right now, so we could be waiting weeks or even months for the apps to be ready for prime time.

WhatsApp Web has been online since January last year, letting you keep in contact through your PC or Mac by scanning a QR code with your phone.

It’s slick stuff, but anyone that remembers AIM or MSN Messenger will know a desktop app can come in handy too – particularly if you’re supposed to be working instead of chatting.

WhatsApp hasn’t confirmed it’s got a desktop app in the works, so it’s all just rumours for now, but this latest leak seems to have confirmed the company’s plans.

In the meantime, at least we still have WhatsApp Web to tide us over until WhatsApp desktop is officially available for our computers – so if you’re not already on board already, there’s really no escaping it.
