Volkswagen follows BMW and Porsche’s lead with its own Apple Watch app

Lost your Volkwagen in the parking lot? There's an app for that

The onslaught of Apple Watch apps has apparently begun, with car manufacturers particularly keen to get in on the fun. We’ve seen Porsche and BMW launch apps already and now Volkswagen has just released its own Car-Net app, which offers special functions for owners of VW’s own proprietary VW Car-Net platform.

Volkswagen owners can now track their vehicles on the watch, remotely locking and unlocking doors as well as checking on the status of their car doors, windows and sun roofs. Even finding where you parked your car is made easy, as the app not only gives you a map but even offers directions and the ability to remotely honk the horn and flash car lights.

You can even set up notifications on the app to let you know when anyone driving your car goes past certain speed or boundary limits. The app also lets you check fuel levels and, for electric cars, how much charge is left.

Currently the VW Car-Net system is available for select 2014 Beetle, CC, Eos, Jetta, Passat and Tiguan models and all 2015 and later Golf, Golf GTI, Golf R, Golf SportWagen and e-Golf models. If you own a supported model and a Watch, you can download the app from the App Store today.
