Valve might start selling its own gaming hardware

A console from the creators of Portal, Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life? Where can we start throwing our money?

Valve’s co-founder Gabe Newell has stated that the game developer behind Portal and Half Life is willing to consider developing its own hardware.

In an interview with Penny Arcade, Newell stated that “if [Valve] has to sell hardware [it] will” expressing his belief that the company is willing to go the extra mile if it’s the only option to continue innovating.

Tantalisingly, Newell also showed an interest in wearable computers, fuelling our imaginations with images of a Valve-made digital download console combined with the likes of a Sony HMZ 3D visor.

It’s far too early to tell what (if anything) is littering the desks in Valve’s secret lab, but we can only keep our fingers crossed and hope they deliver something special. Or Half-Life 3. We’d take that too.
