UK’s oldest TV goes up for sale

Yep – it’s even older than that Grundig CRT you’ve got in the attic. Slightly more valuable, too

3DTV, meet your great, great, great grandfather. The contraption above may look like a jewellery box, but it’s actually Britain’s oldest working television set. At 75 years old, there’s a chance it can even remember the days when Bruce Forsyth had never been on the air. The killer feature is the 12in screen which is ingeniously reflected on to a mirror in the lid. You can even give it a 21st century upgrade by plugging in a Freeview box. So pop by the auction on April 19th at Bonhams and buy one for your Nan’s birthday, but bring a hefty wallet as it’s expected to reach upwards of £5,000.
