UK-wide free Wi-Fi battle commences

... and free Wi-Fi for all, says O2, as it promises to double the competition’s combined offering

Got yourself a 3G iPad? Whoops – looks like you might have been better off saving your cash if you live in Britain. O2 has launched a massive “market-changing” campaign to outdo the free Wi-Fi offerings of its competitors – namely BT Openzone and The Cloud – by a factor of two (“at least”). It’ll also offer its hotspots to customers of other networks and broadband providers. Could we finally see free public Wi-Fi for all? O2 says it’s already set about its mission. And we wish the company well on its quest.
