Play TV coming to PS3 10 September
Sony has finally given an official date for the Play TV add–on for PS3. Gamers will be able to record and stash their favourite TV shows via the official digital TV recorder from 10 September.
Originally slated for release this month, Play TV will allow you to snaffle any content you want while playing games, all thanks to the new 2.41 firmware update.
The accessory is home to a freeview tuner, with the console upscaling pics to an eyeball–friendly 1080i. So no need to go through the faff of getting Freesat installed then. And if you’re in a Wi–Fi hotspot, you can use Remote Play to record shows via your PSP. Clever Sony.
Looks like that 80GB PS3 coming out at the end of August is going to be well worth the money. Sony says Play TV will cost €99, with a UK price to follow.

The designers weren't having a very imaginative day when they designed the box were they???

Seems like I've been waiting for this beast for donkeys years.. Still I bet its worth the wait, judging from the quality of the MPEG2-TS videos streamed from my MythTV box its going to ultra high quality images. Plus with the promise of firmware updates we can hope to see extra enhancements over time. Shame about the confusion over DVB-T2 support but I guess I can live with that since the soonest I can expect HD Freeview is 2012...;(

I must admit I am quite excited with the sound of this (play tv) as redundancy has made made have to drop Sky HD package and I only watch a few films a month anyway.. The ability to watch freeview upscaled to 1080i and to play, pause and record is what I am used too with Sky. This should fit in nicely with the European launch of the Video on demand service in the new year. I updated my hard drive too.. now got a 250gb one for only £48 to assist with all the recording especially when HD content comes soon.
