Panasonic planning 3D Blu-ray for 2010

We saw Philips demoing some 3D video stored on Blu-ray at the IFA show back in August, but now it seems Panasonic is the company most likely to offer a proper home solution for mind-boggling three dimensional movies.

The firm is working on a Blu-ray Disc capable of storing two-channel 1080p 3D pictures, along with an HDMI cable to carry those pictures to a suitable TV.

It's early days at the moment, but reports suggest Panasonic hopes to bring its envelope-pushing tech to the market as early as 2010.

Everything is based on existing technology, you see, which means they only have to modify what's already there rather than invent a totally new kind of disc or cable.

The company has already shown off a 103-inch plasma screen capable of displaying eye-popping 3D pictures, so it seems that, given a bit of i dotting and t crossing, we could have proper 3D tellies in our homes in a couple of years. Now all we need is something decent to watch on them...
