ITV going HD this weekend

You could be forgiven for not remembering the football fest that is Euro 2008 kicks off this Saturday. ITV certainly hasn’t though and is launching its HD service when the tournament starts this weekend.
The new service, available through Freesat, will give punters the chance to watch the England–free event in eyeball stroking hi–def.
There are also plans to show next year’s Champions League, FA Cup and England internationals (if you can be faffed watching), as well as a slew of specifically made dramas.
That should give Sky something to think about while they skulk around and wait for the new Premier League season to start.

What's the point of ITV annoying a whole bunch of HD viewers who already have Sky?

I disagree, there needs to be competition in this HD broadcast market space. The lofty prices they charge are simply because they can get away with it without effecting their position in this area.
I’m all for ITV and freesat HD – lets hope more channels follow ITV’s standpoint.
Sky has already dropped the cost of their HD box since freesat has become available?
