bbc broadcasting london olympics 2012 in ultra hd

The BBC has confirmed to Tech Radar that it will partner with Japan's NHK broadcaster to deliver selected events from the London Olympics (including the opening and closing ceremonies) in a whopping 7680x4320 (or 8k4k) resolution.

That's 16 times the detail of the current standard full HD resolution and should bathe our mortal eyes in insane levels of pixel-packing goodness.

Standard tellys obviously won't be able to handle such resolutions so you're going to have to head down to the Broadcasting house in London, the National Media Museum in Bradford or BBC Scotland's TV studios in Glasgow to get in on the Ultra HD action.

Tickets for the events will be released for free by the BBC in May so watch this space for more info shortly.
