Toshiba has shown off its entry into the touchscreen market with the Satellite U500-1EX, a 13-inch laptop with multi-touch screen.
Running on an Intel Core i3 processor, the U500-1EX packs a 320GB hard drive and 4GB RAM, and runs Windows 7 Home Premium with Microsoft’s Touch Pack.
The Touch Pack comes with a number of pre-installed programmes made especially to be used with a multitouch screen, allowing you to flick through and enlarge photos easily, create touch-sensitive screensavers, and check out destinations all over the world in 3D using Microsoft Surface Globe.
However, it doesn’t stop there – regular programmes such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint will become touch-ready, you’ll be able to scroll through websites by touching the screen and the Start menu and taskbar will pack larger, fingertip-friendly icons.
As for non-touchy specs, expect a DVD dual layer drive, HD webcam, 5-in-1 card reader, HDMI and USB ports, Bluetooth 2.1 and a weight of just over 2kg.
The U500-1EX laptop will go on sale for £649 – we've been hands on with it already, so check back soon for hands on snaps and first impressions.
