Having been a Windows Mob stalwart for far too long, CoPilot is now hopping on to Series 60 Symbian mobiles. Starting with the Nokia N70, CoPilot Live 6 Symbian will bring sat-nav to the masses.
It’s not that it’s the first sat-navver to get its greasy paws on mobiles – it’s not even the first to conquer the N70: Navicore got in there a fair while ago. No, what’s tickling our fancy here is the fact that, if you’re on the right contract, you can get it on your N70 for nowt. CoPilot will be available on T-Mobile UK and, depending on your contract, could cost you nothing more than your monthly airtime tariff.
Of course, if you want any of the extras, there’s a premium. You can subscribe to safety camera warnings with automatic location updates and live traffic information and you’ll be able to get specialised premium content, such as custom POI databases, later in the year.
As far as functions go, the Live 6 Symbian has all the usual CoPilot bits and bobs: to get going just hit 'start driving' and it’ll calculate your route in a few seconds; if you miss a turn, CoPilot will show its initiative with a new route; all street maps are up to date and preloaded on a storage card so you can just plug it in and get off on your merry way without too much hassle.
Like all CoPilots, it’s a considerate little sat-nav which tries its very best not to distract the driver (unlike pesky kids or meddling grannies in the back seat) by only displaying the fancy-assed auto-zoom map when nearing a turn.
Other maps include a nifty little 3D bird's eye view, a planning mode to calculate trips in advance and, like the Navicore Personal, a walking mode.
CoPilot Live 6 Symbian will be available first on the Nokia N70 through T-Mobile UK from free as part of monthly airtime contracts.
