Let's face it: a puny 4.8in sat-nav would be lost in our lowered Hummer H2 with 22in rims and concert-worthy sound system (Santa was kind this year). So for those with similarly oversized motors, Garmin's come up with the 5.2in nuvi 5000.
That's a lot of real estate to mount on a dashboard, so it's not for your Fiat Panda. But Garmin reckons the big screen makes it easier than ever to get from A to B – without taking the scenic route via X, Y and Z along the way.
There's all the standard sat-nav fare, plus nifty 3D elevation maps to put an end to pesky 2D contour lines for good. In, too, goes an FM transmitter and MP3 player for hooking up to your radio, plus video inputs for goodies such as a rear-mounted cam – always handy for parking a 5m-long beast.
It's out Stateside next month, but we Mini-driving Europeans will have to wait until April at the earliest to get out mitts on it.
