After months of deliberation, tears, tantrums and being forcibly holed up in a room till award winners were hand-picked by the Stuff editorial team, the results for the Stuff Gadget Awards 2011 were finally announced last night at the UnderGlobe. While there were many deserving winners across all categories, it was the Samsung Galaxy S II that managed to bag a much coveted Stuff Gadget Award for Phone of the Year, and deservedly so.
Interestingly, it's also the first time in three years that the award hasn't gone to Apple and its wondrous iPhone efforts. Instead, Samsung's top-of-the-range smartie received its accolade for continuing to impress us with its good looking design, slick operation, one of the best cameras on a smartphone to date, and that gorgeous Super AMOLED screen that even looks good next to the Retina Display. In fact, Samsung went home with both hands full, after also being awarded TV of the Year for its super-slick D8000.
With the smartphone arena hotting up with the likes of the highly anticipated Galaxy Nexus, an assortment of HTC smarties, Nokia stepping back in the game and the arrival of Android Ice Cream Sandwich, will Samsung be able to hold on to its title for two years running? We'll just have to wait and see at the Stuff Gadget Awards 2012, won't we?
