Sony’s tablet confirmed by CEO

A VAIO tablet with PlayStation certification? Running Honeycomb? And here by autumn? We’ll take six

Remember the Sony VAIO tablet rumoured earlier this year? We called it the S1 then. And Sony grand fromage Howard Stringer has just set the rumour cart rolling again by confirming a Honeycomb (Android 3.0) tablet will hit the shops before summer is through.

Details are scant, but the idea of finger browsing XMB (the PS3/PSP’s lovely dark interface) on a 9.4in touchscreen is making our palms clammy. We’re also dreaming of Tegra 2, a Bravia picture engine, PSOne games (think Xperia Play) and the best camera to hit a tablet yet. Although the Stringster also let slip to Bloomberg that Sony will be supplying Apple its lensmanship for mobile devices in future, too.

A summer rich with rumours is afoot. Watch this space.
