Sony Walkman NWZ-B160 music clip arrives

This brightly-coloured Shuffle rival should prove to be a hit with gym-goers and those not already tied to iTunes

Sony has just dropped the word on its latest MP3 player, the Walkman B series.

In size terms, it's clearly in iPod Shuffle territory at under 10cm long and a floaty 28g, but unlike the Shuffle it will only play MP3 and WMA files – not great news if you have an extensive iTunes AAC collection. If that's not a problem for you, then go ahead and choose between the 2GB and 4GB versions on offer.

It'll keep the tunes pumping for up to 18 hours, but even better than that is its ability to get 90 minutes of playback from just a three-minute stint on the charger.

There's a three line backlit display, and its Zappin search button lets you easily preview tracks. There's even a colour-coded power light that you can set to pulse to the beat, if you absolutely insist on being an exhibitionist. There's also a detachable clip on the back for, well, you know.

It'll be available from Sony in June.
