Sony Ericsson readying unlimited downloads

Sony Ericsson is about to throw itself into the murky world of unlimited downloads, if we’re to believe a report in today’s Financial Time

Apparently, SE is losing money faster than Kerry Katona in your local Iceland, and reckons the way forward is to ape Nokia Comes With Music and offer free downloads with certain blowers, with a release expected before Christmas.

The mobile giant is already said to have Warner, EMI and Sony BMG tied down, as well as a string of big time indies, with Universal to follow. And with their PlayArena service already up and running in Scandinavia, it shouldn’t be too hard to roll it out here either.

But with Nokia’s version not launching until next month, and many already sceptical about its DRM credentials, could Sony Ericsson be getting itself into a phoney war? Surely with all those Walkman phones, they’d be a dead cert to see off Nokia. Let us know what you think in the comments section.
