A built-to-last compact camera is the perfect addition to any photographer’s quiver. While it may look like your average pocket-friendly Sony snapper outside, the Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 has the beating heart of an action hero.
It’s the first waterproof Cyber-shot camera (down to 3m), and is dust-proof, shock-proof and freeze-proof to boot. It’s also the slimmest waterproof camera on the market too, at just 17.7mm thick.
It packs a 10.2MP CMOS sensor, and has a fairly standard 4x optical zoom for getting up close and personal.
Meanwhile a 25mm wide angle mode and 720p HD movie capabilities make it a suitcase essential for a both a winter trip to the slopes or a beach getaway. Both of which have proved the undoing of many a compact camera. And yes, it’ll also take a kicking on a night out and still live to upload your shame the next morning.
A 3in LCD touchscreen should do the business for lining up your shots or putting your friends through a holiday slideshow, and even works underwater or with gloves. But most impressive of all – it does all this and still manages to fit into a waif–like 17.7mm thick shell.
The Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 is out at the end of March, with UK pricing to be confirmed ($350 in the States).
