The solar-powered Skylock proves that bike locks can be sexy too

Sleek and stylish with brains to match - it's the ultimate bicycle bodyguard

That’s one pretty bike lock
Isn’t it just? It’s easily in our top three bike locks of all time, for its good looks alone. But it’s more than just a pretty face.

Built by ex-boeing and Jawbone engineers, the Skylock is a smart bike lock which strives to offer the ultimate level of protection for your trusty two-wheeled steed.

What’s so special about it then?
Well for starters it’s got a military-grade, custom dual-lock design, making it twice as safe as a traditional u-lock.

If someone does attempt to break it, it can alert you through an accompanying app via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, letting you and your posse chase any would-be thievs out of town.

What are you a cowboy?
That dream died the day we realised we were petrified of udders. But let’s get back to the Smartlock shall we?

In addition ot alerting you if your bike’s in danger, the Skylock’s built-in accelerometer is able to analyse its movement and compare it to your smartphone’s own data. This gives it the ability to detect when you’ve been in an accident.

If you crash, it’ll push a message to your phone, and if you fail to acknowledge it within a set period of time, Skylock will automatically alert your emergency contacts.

It’s like a guardian angel.
Sure, if you like. But it doesn’t stop there.

The Skylock app also lets you share your bike with other Skylock app users. you can even track of it to make sure a rogue cyclist doesn’t speed off with it, never to be seen again.

Sounds great, but charging it is going to be a pain
Unlike other smart bike locks we’ve seen, the Skylock has a built-in solar panel which promises to virtually eliminate manual charging.

One hour of sunlight will apparently be enough to keep it going for one week, while a fully charged battery will last up to a month.

Sounds good to me. Where do I sign?
You can pre-order one for the crowd-funded discount price of US$160, which is a decent saving over the final US$250 retail price.
