SIM–free iPhone coming to UK?

Being shackled to O2 has undoubtedly been one of the biggest drawbacks for potential iPhone punters. So word that Apple's mighty phone might be about

A spy pic snapped by the phone fanatics at Mobile Industry Review clearly shows a SIM–free iPhone 3G being flogged for a massive €799 over in Spain.

Whether this means we'll be seeing a similar deal here in the UK remains to be seen. So far Hong Kong is the only place where Apple has allowed their phone to be sold without being tied to an operator.

For now, the only way you can dream of getting your SIM to play nice on an iPhone 3G is to grab a £349 PAYG model and jailbreak it. A proper SIM–free version certainly wouldn't hurt.
