Hiker's GPS gets colour, SD, USB

11 May 2005

Magellan, GPS maestro and Garmin's arch-rival, has just launched three new handheld sat navs. The eXplorist 400, 500 and 600 are all designed for hiker/runner/climber-types - orienteerists need not apply - and add some cool new touches.

The chief one is that all three now have USB and SD cards so you can update your maps when, er, the Peak District rearranges itself. The 500 and 600 also gain colour screens, thus bringing them into the same century as every other gadget in the world.

The 500 and 600 are on sale by the end of the month for £350 and £400 respectively; the 400 joins them in June for £280.
