TomTom spruces up iPhone app with update
With CoPilot treating its Live 8 iPhone app to another refresh only last week, TomTom has struck back by announcing a free update to its app. The improvements are largely minor, but collectively bring the £60 app in line with the cheaper competition. A 'text-to-speech' feature means it can now read out street names and places, though this was already available on Navigon's MobileNavigator app.Like its CoPilot rival, there's now iPod player controls to let the iPhone multi-task and control your tunes from within the app. And 'Advanced Lane Guidance' promises to step in and help when you're trying to weave through difficult junctions.Sadly, there are still no live traffic alerts, though the safety camera and map databases have apparently been updated. TomTom is submitting the update to Apple today for approval, so should be popping up in your App Store 'updates' list very soon.

Anyone else think all these sat-nav updates are a reaction to googles free sat nav service coming to android 2.0?
