Route 66 Maxi and Mini adventure

18 Sep 2007

With the growing trend for giant widescreen sat-navs we've noticed a distinct lack of well-featured but pocketable, smaller devices. Hearing our cry and responding with a loud honk of its big-truck horn, Route 66 has delivered two new devices that cater for both needs.  Heading out on the highway from next month will be the 4.3in widescreen Maxi and the squared off 3.5in Mini. Despite the difference in screen size they're both just 19mm thick, share the same feature set and get the same brushed aluminium finish. On board is Europe-wide or UK mapping, free TMC traffic updates, camera alerts and optional Bluetooth handsfree courtesy of the Wireless car kit cradle, which also adds an FM transmitter.  We've been impressed by Route 66's software in the past and it's easy-as-pie one-box location search feature. This could be the pairing that finally sees it stealing some tarmac from Garmin and TomTom.   EssentialsRoute 66 Mini UK, Mini Europe, Maxi UK, Maxi Europe, Wireless car kitPrice: €200, €250, €250, €300, €130On sale: mid-OctoberContact: Route 66Related stories:Magellan Meastro 4245 maps UK, Europe and skinny lattesS-Series is a changed NavmanGet your kit on Route 66
