Samsung Gear A smartwatch looks set to launch alongside Galaxy Note 5

The SDK for the device formerly known as "Orbis" has revealed its likely specs

Word on the street (the tech news internet street, no less) is that, when it announces the Galaxy Note 5, Samsung will also unveil its next smartwatch. Previously known as “Orbis”, it now seems this wearable will be dubbed the Gear A.

The official developer SDK has given the world a peek into the watch’s specs, so it’s pretty much confirmed that it will have an Exynos 3472 dual-core 1.2GHz processor as well as the Mali-400 MP4 GPU, 4GB of storage, a 250mAH battery, and Bluetooth 4.1

For the display, you can expect a circular Super AMOLED screen with a 360 x 360 resolution. As to the actual design and size, all that’s known is that it will feature a digital crown similar to Apple’s, as well as a bezel ring for navigation. Samsung has also been rumoured to be working with names like Swarovski, Zegna, Tech21, Anymode and Incipio to create custom bands for the Gear A.

Pricing and availability will all likely be revealed next month when the Note 5 gets launched – a little earlier than usual, possibly to avoid being crushed in September’s Apple iPhone launch. Could this be the smartwatch to steal Apple’s thunder? We’re just waiting to see whether the watch will be running Tizen as reported, and not Android Wear.
