Rumour has it that the next Fallout game – which may or may not be called “Fallout 4” – will be set in the Boston area.
Reddit users claim that Bethesda, the developer behind the franchise, has been in the area researching locations, paying particular attention to MIT, the world famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, just across the river from Boston.
If true, we can expect settings for the next post-apocalyptic RPG adventure to include Harvard University (“next door” to MIT) and Fenway Park, home to the Boston Red Sox. And who knows, maybe the original Cheers bar (which we’ve been to and looks sadly nothing like the one Ted Danson works in on telly).
Obviously this is all best taken with a hefty pinch of salt, but another Reddit user supported the rumour by saying that Bethesda has a “strong connection” with MIT: “I may or may not be an MIT employee. But that’s really all I can say for fear of losing my job… Bethesda’s contracts are basically full-proof [sic] so if they were to discover who I am, or rather, who I got this information from, a few people including myself could get into a lot of trouble.”
We’ll bring you more on Fallout 4 as we get it.
