No, the iPhone isn’t going to start supporting Nottingham Football Club. But it might – come summertime – start supporting Near Field Communications, the touch-based information/payment/access system that’s been around for years but is set to come of age in a smartphone world.
Should it get NFC support, the iPhone 5 would join Google’s Nexus S in bringing a new lease of life to the tech. And with the lion’s share of smartphones touting Android or iOS, we’d imagine that’s enough to break NFC into the mainstream.
Expect a rumour concerning Windows Phone 7 support shortly. Followed by a brave new world.
