Raspberry Pi distribution delayed over CE compliance requirement

If you've ordered the pocket-sized computer, you'll have to hang on a little bit longer

Raspberry Pi, the £22 mini-computer that sold out within hours of going on sale, has hit a small snag on its way from the manufacturers to your pockets. Its distributors, RS Components and element14, have both stated that they won’t distribute Raspberry Pi until it recieves the CE mark – indicating that it’s compliant with EU legislation.

While Raspberry Pi initially believed that the device wouldn’t need the CE mark as it’s “not a ‘finished end product’,” it’s now working to ensure that the 2000 Raspberry Pi boards that have already arrived in the UK are CE marked “as soon as is humanly possible.”

So if you’re one of the many keen coders that was lucky enough to snap up a Raspberry Pi from the first batch, your pocket powerhouse should be arriving soon – if not quite as soon as you were hoping for.
