O2 and Sony BMG eyeing new download service

31 Jul 2008

Sony BMG They’re not telling us much, but O2 and Sony BMG have confirmed they are working on an “exciting new music service”.

The mobile mavens and major label say the new service will allow “fans and artists to become more connected.” Sounds to us like plans for a tawdry Channel 4 music show and an over–the–air download service are afoot.

Sony BMG has already signed up with Nokia's Comes With Music offering. The label also said way back in March that it was plotting its own DRM–free download service. How this all fits in with its O2 plans remains to be seen.

We’ll be finding out more at a VIP launch event next week, so keep your eyes on Stuff.tv for more news as it happens.
