Well well, what have we here? Eagle–eyed Stuff reader Michael Smith has just dropped us a line with this grab showing movies for sale on the UK iTunes store.

And Apple has just confirmed to us that they are indeed renting flicks online now. Archive movies will cost £2.49, standard–def newbies at £3.49 and hi–def at £4.49.

If you want to buy films, they’ll start at £6.99. There are upwards of 700 titles available to download right now, 100 of them in HD. Just head to iTunes to get going.

Major studios on board include MGM, Sony, Warner Bros, Lionsgate and Disney. It appears Universal isn't in on the game as yet. New releases will be available on the same day as they're released on DVD, just like they are in the States.

We’ve spotted The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Batman Begins and, brilliantly, Caddyshack 2!

So, movies available pre–WWDC. Good work Apple, about time! Now, how about that 3G iPhone?

HD rentals are only available on Apple TV! They look great though. I've been renting from the US store here in the UK, they are about half the price. You can buy US itunes vouchers on ebay with only a $2 markup. You'll then need to set up a US account. Its worth it!

Will they be DRM? Will I be able to stream them through my media server if I don't have apple TV?

Johnprevans, yes they are DRM'd using Apple's Fairplay system, so they're limited to watching in iTunes, iPod, iPhone or Apple TV.
