Gadget of the Day – Roth Audio RothDock

26 Mar 2009

Roth Audio RothDockAn iPod dock without the tiresome annoyingness of cables - that's the idea behind the RothDock from high-end audio stalwarts Roth Audio. Plug the receiver unit into your existing hi-fi setup, then take the docking station wherever you like, whack in your iPod or iPhone and before you can say "Yngwie Malmsteen" you'll be rocking out to your favourite tunes.

The RothDock has its limits, of course. The dock and receiver only work to a distance of around 10 metres, and the dock isn't 100 percent wireless, as it needs to be plugged into a power socket.

But these are pretty piffling issues compared to the freedom the setup gives you, and its talents aren't limited to Apple gear either - a 3.5mm stereo jack means you can also lash up your MP3 player, mobile or pretty much any other audio gizmo.

It seems pretty pointless really. You can't carry the dock around. I just want a version of this which just plugs into the bottom of the ipod, bout the size of an iTrip.

I have to agree with the 2nd comment. This is exactly what my old dock lacked.. Having it beside me rather than 20 feet away next to my AV setup, and it charges! Sound is great quality. Product is top notch.
