Mini tablets are here to stay, with the Apple iPad Mini, Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire HD duking it out for gadgeteers' affections. Now a new challenger's entering the arena, in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 – rumoured to launch at MWC 2013 in February.

Leaked images of the Galaxy Note 8.0 on Italian tech site DDay.it reveal that it looks like a large Samsung Galaxy Note 2 – which is definitely a good thing. That sleek, curved design will likely come with a 1.6GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM powering this 1280x800 resolution packing handheld – which sits it at 189ppi, ahead of Apple’s 132ppi iPad Mini.

Rumoured specs also include 1.3MP front and 5MP rear cameras plus the same S Pen stylus found on the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note 10.1.

Now we just have to cross our fingers and hope those superior specs won’t also make a deeper dent in our wallets than the already pricey iPad Mini. Check back for updates on the Galaxy Note 8.0 as we receive them – and to see if Apple takes the fight to Samsung with its rumoured iPad Mini with Retina Display.
