Will Apple charge for iOS 5?

We like apple sauce. We’d even go so far as to say we trust it, which is more than we can say for Apple sources – of which there are a few too many these days.
That said, we’ve been sent the above (unconvincing) slide from a source claiming to be “an Apple employee” who says he found it in the system files of a company Mac he borrowed. It ties in with reports from TUAW that a “trusted source” has pinned the date of Apple’s iOS 5 event to the first two weeks of April. The unofficial Apple blog also speculates that there will be news about a change of direction for MobileMe.

More interestingly, and further to our own diggings last year, this could be the first time we see Apple charge for an iOS update. All device owners are guaranteed one upgrade for free, but we’ll be interested to see if – as TUAW also hints – original iPad owners will have to fork out for iOS 5 goodies. Could be sour apples for some…

really? First they charge you 600 and more EUR for every device and now they should make you pay even for an iOS update? Considering their loss of market share to Google who - and this we can be sure of - will never ever charge for an OS update, that would be like putting a rope around your neck, kicking the ladder, cutting your wrists and shooting yourself at the same time...
Thus, I don't believe in this rumour.

"Apple sources – of which there are a few too many these days."
So why the f*$K are you posting every POS about them that lands in you inbox?!
They'll charge iPod Touch owners as usual is my guess.

I read this post at work and talked to the guy's about it and a we think that Apple wouldn’t charge for its software updates. Well not for the latest edition of the devices, however, maybe for some of its older devices like 1st & 2nd gen iPod's.
Just like when they charged £0.99 for the FaceTime app for Mac's if you didn’t have the latest one because of legal’s.
As for the validity of the source, we agree anyone can mock this up in seconds.
