A second compact has drawn gasps from the photography fraternity by leaping over the 10MP bar – this Polaroid compact with MP4 playback.
The i1032 joins Casio’s EX-Z1000 (story here) in the record books, and relegates Fujifilm’s 9MP E900 further down the list of megapixel monsters.
As discerning photographers will no doubt be screaming, though, this means massive pictures but not necessarily great pictures, so we’ll wait to see how the sensor copes before drawing conclusions.
In fact, a head-to-head with the Z1000 isn’t unlikely considering their specs are so similar – both have 3x optical zoom, while the i1032 has a slightly smaller 2.4in LCD.
Rather than recording in VGA, it captures video in compressed MP4 which means you’ll be able to squeeze more onto an SD card, and there’s a burst mode for fast-moving objects.
Unfortunately, the i1032 has only been launched in the States at the staggeringly cheap price of £160, but is expected to come to the UK – we’re just confirming with Polaroid when that’ll be.
Update (1/6/05): Polaroid has told us that the i1032 will launch in the UK in early August
