While the Google Nexus One may well be coming to Vodafone sometime this spring, Play.com has gone and got us all in a tizz by listing the handset as available SIM-free from next week.
You can currently buy the handset direct from Google in the States without a mobile contract, but that involves shipping and import charges.
Buying the handset from Play will allow you dodge all this, as well as benefit from the company's free shipping, but it's not without its own costs.
The Nexus One is currently listed on Play for £599.99 – compared to the $529 (£339) direct from Google, plus the $29.65 international shipping, and an optional $19 for an AC adaptor.
Even with the $100 or so added on for 17.5% VAT, that only comes to around £435 – quite a difference.
Still, you will always pay for convenience and if you'd feel better buying from the UK, Play says it will have the handset in stock and ready to go from 16 February. Does this mean we should see it on Vodafone shortly after?
Surprisingly, Expansys is yet to list a price or release date for the Nexus One, but we'll bring you the deets once we have them.
