Windows Mobile 6.5 dated
Microsoft has finally lifted the lid on the release date for Windows Mobile 6.5, the OS update many have hoped will bring WinMo up to speed with its competitors.Hitting stores in new phones on 6 October, and available to download to existing handsets on the same day, the 6.5 update will pack an easier-to-use interface, better browsing capabilities and access to new services including Microsoft My Phone, and Windows Marketplace for Mobile. The latter is an app store for WinMo applications that comes complete with its own return policy, while the former is a service that will allow you to back up and sync your music, photos, contacts and texts from your phone to the web.Furthermore, the new Internet Explorer Mobile browser comes with iPhone-crushing Adobe Flash Lite support, and the recently announced Microsoft Office Mobile will allow you to open and edit Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents directly from your phone. And if you get bored with the look of your phone, you can now choose from different themes and customise your home screen with widgets, with a much improved touch-friendly user interface. Let us know if you're excited about Windows 6.5 below, and be sure to look out for our views here once we get hands on with the updated OS.

I have been sooo tempted to get the htc touch pro 2 but knowing this 6.5 was nearly here, I couldn't do it. Now I can and the fact that users can update from 6.1 is brilliant. I can sell my iPhone 3G now and get the touch pro 2 on a small business contract (as it's for work) and a 16gb iPod touch for me sounds. It's made my day this news.
