T-Mobile planning to offer unlocked iPhone 3GS?
T-Mobile is planning to sell unlocked iPhone 3GS handsets imported from Europe, according to a report by the Telegraph. Official carrier, O2, would be powerless to stop the move as its contract with Apple does not prevent other firms importing SIM-free iPhones. However, the radical plan could lead to anger from Apple which tightly controls the sale of the iPhone 3GS. Recent reports have suggested that O2's exclusive hold on the iPhone could be coming to an end. Do T-Mobile's desperate measures suggest it's not in the running? Would you sign up with T-Mobile to get your hands on an unlocked iPhone 3GS? If you're already on the network, would you switch to the iPhone 3GS if you had the chance? (via The Telegraph)

Would like to get the Unlocked 3G S iPhone if offered through T-Mobile. BUT.... It would also depends on: 1. Price of the iPhone 2. Cost of the data/phone plan 3. Whether or not it's compatible with T-Mobile USA's 3G network Otherwise, what good is the phone if it's just as expensive through T-Mobile?? Rather then get another brand's Unlocked phone (which is MUCH better than iPhone) from Asia or Europe to use on T-Mobile USA's phone network! Only reason for iPhone is the convenience of a phone and easy to use iPod in one!

MrMojo, Not sure of your point, it would work on T Mobiles US network, but so would any other iPhone including O2's on any other GSM based network. And in the same way it will still cost a fortune when you use it overseas!! If I wasnt tied already into O2 I'd be tempted. An unlocked phone gives you more flexibility and I generally prefer T-Mobile. Unlocked means you could put a foreign sim card in when abroad for instance. However it would have to match O2 on phone and plan pricing, including data, to be appealing. I'm guessing it would also mean no visual voicemail as thats network driven, although I could live without that.

Forgot that this website is based in UK?? Sorry! My points are... iPhone does work in T-Mobile USA network but the 3G plan has limited usage since the 3G frequency is different between ATT and T-Mobile! Also, iPhone is currently "locked" to ATT in USA and ATT's phone/data plan is relatively Expensive!! Sorry for the confusion!

I'm happy with my choice, I've been on every network in the UK and O2 was my favourite a few years ago, and I'm happy to leave Vodafone and have been waiting for an excuse to really. If it comes to T-mobile (or one2one as I still prefer to call them) I'll still have no regrets. Same as if it came to Voda (though I'm sure they'd make it red and put stickers all over it) and I think I've probably got the same opinion as a lot of other people. Shame it's a whole 2 years though, I like my gadgets :p
