Samsung's first Android phone – more details emerge
It's no secret that Samsung is planning on releasing an Android-based smartphone or two this year, with the first reportedly hitting Europe as early as June. However new specs and pictures leaked by a Russian phone retailer have given us a little more insight into what we now know to be the S8000 (also touted as the Cubic), and they're impressive to say the least.Electricpig reports that the Android-based smartphone will come with 2GB of on board storage (expandable via microSD card), a 5 megapixel camera and thankfully, a 3.5mm jack so you can use your own headphones to listen to your music. The S8000 will also pack a 16 million colour 3.1-inch AMOLED screen that will make for better battery life, GPS with A-GPS for geotagging, FM radio, and the connectivity trio of Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth that you'd probably expect. The new smartphone will also support DivX and XviD video formats as well. The site that leaked the deets did have the device up for pre-order grabs with a price tag of 470 Euros, but has since vanished quicker than Samsung could make a very strongly-worded phone call. We'll keep you updated with any news we get, but until then be sure to check out our hands-on video of the next release in the Android smartphone family, the HTC Magic.
