Orange iPhone tariffs cap 3G data to 750MB a month

03 Nov 2009

While Orange may have come out on top in our iPhone tariff face off, it seems their 3G data cap is less than generous, and could cause Spotify lovers and serial YouTubers a bit of bother. The chaps over at Electricpig have had a good read through the small print on Orange’s iPhone pay monthly tariffs and found that there is a 3G data cap of 750MB per month.Sure, that’s going to give you plenty of room for browsing and emailing, but when you start looking at streaming services, it could get a little tight. The popular Spotify app allows you to stream music from your Spotify account over 3G to your iPhone. Streaming your music at around 160kbps, this means you’ll reach your limit within around 13 hours. Doing the maths, this means you’ll be able to listen to around 25 minutes a day, and that would leave no room for any browsing, video streaming or emailing. This is restrictive to say the least, and certainly makes an Orange iPhone tariff less appealing.Would the 3G data cap put you off? Let us know below.

But I remember hearing that this applied to the Wifi as well. But surely not. 3G isn't too high, I know I don't use that. But I guess there are people who use their phone a lot more than me. It would put me off but I'd still go with Orange at the moment because they are cheaper. But if it comes on vodafone i'll hopefully upgrade to that instead of some boring old Nokia.

iPhone... whats that....Oh i remember... It's that highly over priced phone thats got no customisation abilities and inability to watch video's (unless there quicktime, which hardly any are)or send MMS (unless you go into the settings and turn it on cause you've got it off to save battery life)or multi task properly or take a decent photo or oh I'm gonna shut up now and get back to listing my iPhone3G on ebay. HTC HD2... come on down.

Unlimited data usage with the fair usage set at 750mb?

Yes it is a fair usage policy. I work for Orange and it clearly says unlimited with fair usage of 750mb. Iv seen plenty of customers go way over fair usage policies on text etc and not get cut off.
