O2 to lose iPhone 3G exclusive by 9 October?

iPhone 3G

The iPhone 3G contract rumours just keep on pumping out. We've already heard reoprts that T-Mobile is offering high-spending customers an iPhone 3G upgrade, and rumours are rife today that the iPhone 3G will lose its Orange shackles by 9 October.

A story in Mobile Entertainment states that their bods have seen documentation that states O2 exclusivity will officially end on that date.

O2 originally signed a deal for rights to sell the iPhone until 2012 in 2007, although the exclusivity contract was thought only to be for two years.

Orange and T-Mobile seem to be the most likely candidates, thanks to network deals already struck by the two companies in Europe.

O2 have reamined rather tight-lipped on the subject, although ME also state that the company may retain exclusivity of the iPhone 3G.

What do you think? Will you buy into the iPhone frenzy if it comes to your network? Have your say below...

Im hoping this will actually make o2 better as they seemed to have put all their efforts into the iphone. I signed a 24 month business contract which entitled me to an upgrade after 12 months. I always use smartphones so I had the choice of an outdated blackberry, a very outdated winmo phone or a shiny new iphone for a fee.

Maybe by losing the exclusivity it might make o2 more competetive again, if it doesnt I wont be staying with them.

o2 had better get thier act together and get some decent large screen phones or I will go somewhere else, I don't want an i-phone.

    moomin998,

I am with T-Mobile. And I can't wait for them to take on the iphone. I'll be first in line.

I have been wanting the phone for ages. I spoke to o2 today. I asked them if they could match the tarriff I am on with T-Mobile on but on the iphone. They said no, and that the tarriffs are set with the iphone, and can't be changed. I promptley told them that I'll be sticking with T-Mobile. And the girl from o2 flatly denied that o2 are to loose exclusivity of the iphone. I told her to look online. They can deny it all they want. But if T-Mobile get the iphone and on the tarriff im on at the moment, then i'm sticking with T-Mobile.
