O2 says no iPhone price cuts

29 Sep 2009

iPhoneIt may well have lost its iPhone exclusivity, but O2 has said it has no plans for price cuts on its rather pricey iPhone tariffs.

"It's business as usual for us. We knew we only had a two year deal so we knew it was coming," an O2 spokesperson told Stuff.tv.

"We've sold over a million iPhones, so we're confident – there are no plans for price cuts".

The news that Apple's handset will be heading to Orange this year and Vodafone in early 2010, had raised hopes of a price war to bring the cost of the phone down.

Of course O2 may have no plans currently but it could have its hand pushed by the two new players in the game.

Both Orange and Vodafone told us separately that although pricing had not been confirmed, they would be making their tariffs "as competitive as possible" for customers, with Vodafone adding that existing customers would be getting priority at launch.

I really cannot see this happening if Vodafone and Orange are below their prices. At the moment for me the love towards 02 has dwindled due to the lack of their femtocell offering.

Luckily for O2 I am stuck with them until December 2010, but for the first time in years I want to move.

I'll be moving. My deal with O2 is up in the new year so I've got time to check out the new tariffs from Voda and Orange. Fed up with O2's bad network coverage: I have to leave the house just to get a signal, so the web coverage is useless!
