Nokia Comes With Music gets official

Nokia Nokia has finally set about making its Comes With Music service official, with the subscription service, tethered to your mobile, hitting the UK next month. Blighty will be the first country to get in on the action, with Carphone Warehouse stocking a dedicated 5310 XpressMusic blower.

The Finnish phone lovers haven't been shy about letting all and sundry know about the service and how it will operate. Punters who lash out on the phone will be treated to access to 2.1 million tracks (about a quarter of what iTunes has to offer), none of which you'll have to pay for, as the price is included in the cost of the cell. Universal, Sony BMG and Warners are all in on the deal, although EMI and indie labels aren't signing any involvement forms just yet.

Once you come to the end of your contract, you can keep your tunage on your PC forever, leave it on the Comes With Music phone, or buy a new one. That said, there'll be no sharing with other blowers you happen to have strewn about the flat. This is very much a DRM zone.

The 5310 Xpress Music hasn't been priced up yet, but we've been told to expect it to cost anything between £100 and £300 when it launches. None of the big operators are having anything to do with it, so if you want in, you'll need to use an existing SIM or get yourself a SIM only deal.

Rubbish.

It'll only appeal to the flids who don't have a PC. Even then, the sort of people who listen to their music around town via the speaker with dangly earrings, Burberry hat & a Superking menthol.

This demographic won't be able to afford this phone as they normally fail the credit check spectacularly & end up buying a Nk 5300 on PAYG for forty quid then taking it back every couple of weeks because of software problems (on each occasion asking the staff if they have it in pink yet). Repair centres: be on guard, they'll be kicking off that you've deleted their tunes!
