Multitouch coming to Android this year?

14 Aug 2009

Despite rumours that Google was keeping clear of multitouch on its Android platform to keep Apple sweet, it seems it may well be on its way before the year is out.CNET has done some digging and found that Android 2.0 is due to be released this year, and will come packing multitouch similar to Apple's offering.Apparently some new code dropped into the Android Open Source Project by Google has been spotted by a developer that suggests multitouch is on its way, but not – as we heard – in the next update we currently know as Donut. It's thought Donut, or Android 1.6, will be a minor update to be followed by Android 2.0 (Eclair) at the end of the year. The final snippet of information is that it's thought Android 2.0 will make its debut on a handset rather than as a download, and that it'll be a Motorola phone – a company that's made no secret of its support for Google's platform. As always we'll be keeping you up to date on all the news with this but in the meantime let us know if you miss multitouch on your Android phone below.
