More free iPhone deals from 02 and Carphone Warehouse
More good news for iPhone fans this week. Along with the release of nicely tweaked iPhone 3.0 OS, potential new iPhone fans will be able to get their grubbies on an 8GB version for gratis from 02 and the Carphone Warehouse, for a tariff of £34.26 per month.Previously punters had to sign up for a £44.05 deal to get a free iPhone. Now, this higher tariff will earn you a 16GB model for nowt. The catch? Well, you're tied in to an "added value" tariff which loacks you down for a whopping 24 months – surely enough time for at least one new iPhone to be released, perhaps with better camera and video. What do you think? Good deal or prohibitive contract? Let us know below...

Wait for the new one, the old version will be even cheaper!

The vast majority of those who buy iPhones(I'd guess), probably won't be switching to other devices anyway, and judging by whats coming from the rivals(all things considered), there won't be that much incentive to switch.

just to be accurate, the iPhone OS 3.0 was announced and previewed rather than released. It will probably be available in June (which is also my prediction for new hardware.) I have had a lot of phones, but compared to the iPhone they have all been a pile of steaming dingo intestines. I recommend everyone who has an iPhone to get Air Sharing, Real Football and Rolando (and if you haven't got an iPhone ... you should!) Have a great weekend everyone :)

When i first heard about this a fews days ago ..i was not surprised as with the new ones on the horizon it made perfect business sence the clear their stock pile... But hold on.. 24 months. If this is on the 16gb one then i could understand more but not on the 8gb.. I have to say.. i think its a prohibitive contract. I have to agree with drewandy.. Wait for the new ones and then see. The LG Arena is out next week anyway and the palm pre very soon so theres gonna be more competition for o2 to deal with. Or you could do what i did. Go to cex with all your old games consoles, phones and dvd's etc and chop um in for a used iphone which cost my nought. Then get the simplicity 30 day rolling contract for £19.58 a month. Which includes 600 mins 600 texts & unlimited web use.

What is going on with phone companies and these 2 year contracts? It's ridiculous. 18 months is long enough for a phone to really start looking worst for ware never mind breaking down etc. I had a N95 for 18 months and the back was falling off by the time I was due an upgrade. 2 years for any phone is too long, sort yourselves out O2 (iPhone) and Vodafone (Storm).

The term is all about getting money off you. Work out how much it costs to own one for 24 months. Compare that to a SIM only deal and thats the cost of the phone. I guess its not cheaper especially when you factor in how much an old model will be worth way before the contact is due for renewal again.

After seeing my colleague's iPhone survive the rigours of our work for the best part of 2 years, I have to say that although 2 years seems a long time, the iPhone is one of the first phones I've seen that seems to be able to last that long. All other phones I've had seem to die after a year or so, when it's about time to upgrade. 2 years tied to the whim of a mobile company does seem a little too long though. I'm still more excited about the Idou though.
