LG commits to Windows Mobile

LG KS360

There’s no war like a mobile phone OS war. Just as we get news of the second wave of Android phones, Microsoft fights back by signing up LG on a long contract to make Windows Mobile handsets.

The Korean company won’t be excluded from making Android handsets – in fact, it’s already announced that the KS360, which arrived last year, will now be re-released complete with Google’s OS and 3G functionality.

But the deal does apparently commit LG to making Windows Mobile its primary focus, with at least 26 new WinMo phones expected by 2012.

With Android, Palm, the LiMo platform and Apple also expected to be busy bees during that period, it looks like we could be entering the golden age of the smartphone.
