iPhone 3G S – full O2 tariff details revealed

08 Jun 2009

Its UK pricing and pre-order details have already been announced, but what's the real cost of getting your mitts on a new iPhone 3G S on O2 on 19 June?Well, if you're a new customer, then O2 will be offering their existing tariffs, with the 3G S 16GB costing up to £184.98, 32GB up to £274.23 depending on which option you plump for. There are free options of course, but that will mean signing yourself up for a 24-month contract. Ouch. The bad news is that the tethering service means buying a bolt-on that will set you back £14.68 per month for 3GB and a whopping £29.36 per month for 10GB of data. Ouch again.Existing O2 customers will be able to upgrade early, but there will be a charge attached to that. O2's Twitter feed (@O2) has stated that "The early upgrade cost is likely to be monthly cost x months left on your contract, but specifics may vary slightly".Fans of picture messaging should also note that 1x MMS will cost the same as sending 4x text messages, so bear this in mind when you're sending those amusing pub snaps.See the tariffs in full at the official O2 site. Is the iPhone 3G S too expensive? See our blog and have your say.

on Apple's UK Store It has the original 3G for Pay&Go for £342 and the 3GS on Pay&Go coming soon...cant wait to see the pricing on the new one...They really should reduce the price for the 3G...a little

O2 has updated its details - you'll be able to get it PAYG with O2 for the following: * iPhone 3G S 16GB - £440.40 * iPhone 3G S 32GB - £538.30 Any iPhone bought on PAYG will come with the unlimited web and Wi-fi bolt-on for free for 12 months (when you use the O2 PAYG SIM of course).

holy moly...that's a lot of money ... contract it is then. I've seen the guided tour on Apple's webpage and it seems a lot faster to switch between apps and loading of apps.

Being a iPhone 3G owner already I am shocked that we will have to "buy out" the remaining months on our contract to upgrade.  So for me thats £360 before I even have to purchase the 3GS, bit of a rip off!!!  Might as well wait!

O2 have really shafted us loyal customers! I would upgrade in a heartbeat but I have seven months on my contract left to run, cos I upgraded LAST year! So disappointed. Really wanted to stay with O2, but cos of this I guess my current iphone will be my last unless one of the others get the iphone, cos I will be leaving O2 as soon as I can!!!! Humph!!!

I was told by staff in the O2 shop when the iPhone 3G 1st came came out that I would be able to upgrade "when" the new model came out in 2009, so this is either some sort of shabby marketing/publicity ploy, or a complete disregard for loyal customers. Judging by all the angry feedback on Twitter/Press/Blogs, Apple will not be selling many 3Gs at launch and O2 will not keep the iPhone and that's fine by me!
